Crispin Lewis works mainly as a conductor and as a singer. As a choral director he has directed his own vocal ensembles many times at Wigmore Hall, in several BBC Radio 3 broadcasts, and at St John’s Smith Square, Kings Place Hall One, Royal Opera House, Linbury Theatre, and at the South Bank Centre.
Crispin studied violin at the Royal College of Music (postgraduate) and at Trinity Laban Conservatoire (undergraduate), before going on to study conducting and singing. As a singer he has performed opera roles including King Rene in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta; Daland in Wagner’s Flying Dutchman; Mozart's Don Alfonso; Mozart's Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, and several roles in contemporary opera; and has just finished playing Salieri in a production of Rimsky Korsakov's opera, Mozart and Salieri. He gives solo recitals regularly and is the soloist for many choral societies.
He is the musical director of Choritalia, a summer choral course in Tuscany. Crispin has directed Luton Choral Society since 2006 and has frequently involved us in collaborations with his other choirs, in large works such as the Bach St Matthew Passion, the B minor Mass, and Elgar's Dream of Gerontius.
Accompanist - Samuel Prouse
Sam was born in London, and is a prize-winning postgraduate student of the Royal Academy of Music (Alan Kirby prize), where he pursued choral conducting and organ studies. During this time, Sam held organist posts at St Marylebone Parish Church and Westminstre Abbey.
Whilst still a student, Sam became oa Fellow if the Royal College of Organists, winning prizes for the highest marks in the practical examination, and the Dixon prize for improvisation. He has given solo recitals at Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, St Paul's Cathedral and York Minster.
Sam maintains an active freelance career as an accompanist and recitalist. He is the regular accompanist for Luton Choral Society and Thanet Festival Chorus, and is a contributor to the daily organ concert series at Kelvington Art Gallery and Museum. Alongside this, he performs with soprano Elizabeth (Tilly) Green as one half of Oscinis Duo.
